The thyroid isn’t always a go-to for people when they’re worried about their health. Triiodothyronine and thyroxine, the two hormones it produces, are crucial for regulating many aspects of the body, including but not limited to carbohydrate usage, body temperature, and heart rate. Hypothyroidism, the failure of the gland to produce these hormones, can be caused by a number of factors, such as side effects from medication, radiation therapy, and pregnancy.
